Heartburn Treatments

There’s heartburn. And then there’s frequent heartburn — heartburn that occurs two or more days a week. Not all heartburn treatments offer enough relief for frequent heartburn. For frequent heartburn, you may want to consider a PPI such as Prevacid®24HR. Just one pill of Prevacid®24HR keeps you heartburn free all day and all night so you can live life heartburn free.

PPIs and Frequent Heartburn

Prevacid®24HR is a type of heartburn treatment called a “proton pump inhibitor,” or PPI for short. PPIs prevent acid that causes heartburn, from being produced in the stomach. When you experience heartburn two or more times a week, it’s time for Prevacid®24HR. Just one Prevacid®24HR pill prevents the acid that causes heartburn for 24 hours. Prevacid®24HR starts working the day you take it, with some people experiencing complete relief of symptoms within 24 hours*.

H2 Blockers and Heartburn

Another type of heartburn treatment are H2 Blockers. These reduce the amount of acid produced in your stomach by blocking histamine type 2 receptors. H2 Blockers usually only last up to 12 hours, unlike Prevacid®24HR which lasts all day and all night.

Antacids and Heartburn

Antacids are a common heartburn treatment. They relieve heartburn by “buffering” the acid already found in the stomach. However, the relief they bring is only temporary. Unlike Prevacid®24HR — which prevents the acid that can cause heartburn — antacids are intended to treat heartburn after you begin feeling the burn.

To find out which frequent heartburn medicine is right for you, you should consult your healthcare provider.
